09:50:27 Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, the fourth round of the 2007 Championship.
09:52:29 Today we have two 90 minute practice sessions which are effectively free practice as there are no penalties for issues such as engine failures. Test drivers are permitted but no one is expected to run a test driver today.
09:54:15 Since the Grand Prix in Bahrain a month ago, the teams travelled to Barcelona to test at the circuit, so heading into practice, most if not all, with have a good basic setup already on the car.
09:56:09 Ferrari dominated the test programme with first Kimi Raikkonen and then Felipe Massa as the team worked on updates to the already formidable F2007. Every team has used the month break to bring developments to the cars. Interestingly however, a low fuel run from David Coulthard in the Red Bull Renault on the final day produced the fastest lap of the week...
09:58:04 Williams Toyota had a poor test however with Kazuke Nakajima and then Nico Rosberg crashing the sole FW29 available, resulting in the team missing in affect much of the four day session.
10:00:05 The first practice session of the weekend is underway.
10:00:40 Adrian Sutil is the first man on track in his Spyker Ferrari followed by Robert Kubica and Christijan Albers.
10:00:48 Most will complete an installation lap and then return to the pits for checks.
10:01:02 Anthony Davidson heads out in his Super Aguri Honda.
10:01:40 Heikki Kovalainen, Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli and Giancarlo Fisichella leave the pits.
10:02:48 The early runners are heading straight back into the pits as expected. Liuzzi, Alonso, Heidfeld and Rosberg go out.
10:03:57 Sato, Hamilton and Button go out.
10:05:32 No one has completed a timed lap yet although Button stays out and starts a timed lap in the Honda. Team-mate Barrichello is on his installation lap as is Scott Speed.
10:06:39 Button pits at the end of his second tour of the 4.655km circuit.
10:07:03 Barrichello starts a second lap as Webber heads out in his Red Bull.
10:08:35 Barrichello too returns to the pits. No one on track. Many of the teams will be trying various aero modifications today and making a final decision as to run them or not over the remaainder of the race weekend.
10:09:59 Coulthard, Wurz, Massa and Raikkonen have yet to leave the pit lane.
10:11:22 With testing ahead of a Grand Prix at the same circuit, it is of little surprise that there is so little activity.
10:11:49 David Coulthard heads out in his Red Bull Renault.
10:12:37 With three straight DNF's, Coulthard is 22nd and last in the championship standings. His race last time out should well have brough sixth place before reliability issues struck again.
10:12:56 Coulthard now returns to the pits.
10:14:33 Button goes back out in the unloved Honda RA107. The team tried some novel aero devices in the recent test looking to gain some pace from the package.
10:14:53 The problem is, even if they find some time, so will their immediate rivals.
10:17:11 Another two lap from from Button who pits again. Still no one has set a lap time. Barrichello is back out in the sister Honda.
10:19:03 Nico Rosberg is back on track in his Williams Toyota. He suffered a heavy crash in testing and effectively lost two days of running as a result.
10:19:49 Barrichello has pitted the Honda and now Ralf Schumacher is out in his Toyota.
10:20:34 Ralf Schumacher has really struggled with understeer this year with the Toyota. He and the team claim that recent modifications tested after Bahrain have now solved the issue.
10:21:13 Team-mate Trulli is out on track as Alex Wurz heads out for the first time today. Still no sign of the Ferrari duo.
10:21:57 Nico Rosberg posts the first lap of the session, 20 minutes in, with a time roughly ten seconds off the pole from last year. The circuit has changed however...
10:23:12 Now Ralf Schumacher moves fastest, roughly three seconds off the testing pace set by Coulthard earlier this month.
10:23:47 Trulli moves second fastest ahead of Rosberg with Wurz slotting fourth.
10:24:33 Ralf Schumacher imprves his own best time and remains fastest.
10:25:57 Ralf is improving a little on each lap. Nick Heidfeld heads out in his BMW Sauber. Heidfeld is enjoying life right now, but one has to wonder how well the team would be doing if Renault and Honda had not dropped the ball...
10:26:29 Now Trulli moves P1 in his Toyota.
10:27:26 Albers, Sato, Barrichello, Sutil join the action.
10:28:27 Ralf Schumacher and Jarno trulli trade best laps for Toyota as others post their first timed laps of the session.
10:29:36 Schumacher has pitted his TF107.
10:31:14 Now Trulli pits as well after a reasonable first run. Fernando Alonso is on track in his McLaren Mercedes.
10:32:13 Kovalainen and Fisichella head out for Renault. Fisichella has denied comments made in the media, but whatever, the R27 is just a poor car.
10:32:44 The fastest four have all returned to the pits. Hamilton joins Alonso on track.
10:34:01 Unsurprisingly, Alonso vaults fastest on his very first timed lap of the session.
10:34:28 Kubica, having something of a slow start to the season, moves fourth fastest
10:34:59 Alonso improves his own best by two-tenths of a second.
10:36:05 Hamilton's first lap is nothing special as he moves seventh in his McLaren. Still no sign of Massa nor Raikkonen.
10:36:48 Hamilton improves on his next tour and is now third fastest, half a second off the pace of Alonso.
10:38:21 McLaren are running the new 'brige' front wing in this session as Alonso continues to chip away at his own best lap time.
10:38:46 After 40 minutes of the session, Kimi Raikkonen heads out for the first time.
10:39:47 Fisichella makes some ground up and moves ahead of the Williams Toyota duo.
10:40:40 Raikkonen starts his first timed lap and is already looking fast.
10:41:04 Alonso pits as Hamilton moves second fastest behind team-mate Alonso.
10:42:06 Not that fast though as Raikkonen first lap moves him into the top ten... Coulthard and Massa are the only two not to have set a time so far.
10:43:49 Raikkonen is picking up the pace, but nothing earth shattering yet from Ferrari.
10:45:56 A gain from Raikkonen who pops his Ferrari between the two McLarens and into second position.
10:46:23 Coulthard is out in his Red Bull Renault. He has yet to set a time.
10:48:02 A small improvement from Nick Heidfeld in the second BMW Sauber.
10:49:01 The front runners have all pitted now. The BMW Sauber duo are on track as Coulthard posts his first timed lap in his RB3.
10:52:11 50 minutes into the session and Felipe Massa heads out. People wonder why the Friday crowds are so dismal at most events...
10:53:20 Coulthard (12th) goes for a spin under braking
10:53:40 Coulthard returns to the Red Bull pit.
10:54:07 Massa, Fisichella, Kubica and Kovalainen on track.
10:55:41 Massa is getting up to speed in his Ferrari. All 22 drivers have now set a time with Christijan Albers propping up the bottom of the timesheets as usual.
10:56:19 Trulli is back out in his Toyota as Massa moves sixth fastest.
10:57:08 Hamilton is back out in his McLaren
10:58:46 The action is picking up again with Alonso, Hamilton, Trulli and Massa all on track.
10:59:19 Massa moves third fastest. Michael Schumacher is in the Ferrari pit keeping an eye on things.
10:59:56 Raikkonen heads out in his F2007 as Hamilton starts a hot lap.
11:01:05 Hamilton gains four-tenths over his own best and moves fastest in the MP4-22.
11:01:33 Kovalainen gains time and works his way ahead of team-mate Fisichella.
11:02:29 Hamilton backs off on his next lap so there is no further gain.
11:04:05 Now Hamilton pits the McLaren. Following his earlier spin, Coulthard is back out in the Red Bull.
11:05:36 A quick stop for Raikkonen and he is back out.
11:06:14 Davidson moves ahead of team-mate Sato and Barrichello. Button remains the fastest Honda runner in 15th though.
11:07:34 Raikkonen pits again and now it is Alonso that is on the hot lap.
11:08:16 Sato pops in a fast lap to move ahead of Button's Honda.
11:08:48 Alonso was on a fast lap but pitted. He remains second to team-mate Hamilton who is also in the pits.
11:09:16 Webber runs two wheels off track but is able to continue back to the pits.
11:09:55 Christijan Albers has improved his best lap and has now moved ahead of rookie team-mate Adrian Sutil.
11:10:51 Most have pitted. Kovalainen and Fisichella are on track for Renault however.
11:12:55 Hamilton, Trulli and Massa back out.
11:16:31 AFP are reporting that Singapore has won the right to hold a Grand Prix next year... So some breaking news there!
11:16:56 Hamilton has pitted again. Massa is on a long run in the Ferrari.
11:19:31 Trulli and Massa continue their long runs. Now Ralf Schumacher and Raikkonen head out.
11:20:31 Coulthard has moved ahead of team-mate Mark Webber.
11:22:34 McLaren still maintain the advantage overall. They are continuing with the bridge wing which seems to be helping them trim the car more than Ferrari, although it is early days.
11:23:25 The times are still some way off testing however. No one has bolted on anything other than the hard tyre so far in this session.
11:24:10 Robert Kubica moves fourth fastest in his BMW as Honda send out Button and Barrichello on the mredium, sifter, compound.
11:24:45 With just over five minutes remaining, the circuit is now busy. Perhaps they should just make the session 30 minutes long?
11:26:14 Hamilton and Alonso both on good laps.
11:26:33 Button mobes eighth fastest for Honda
11:26:53 Hamilton improves his own best and is now four-tenths up on Alonso.
11:27:20 Hamilton is on the medium tyres at the moment.
11:27:41 Alonso has remained on the harder tyres.
11:28:45 A gain for Nico Rosberg as he moves ahead of Button.
11:29:19 Davidson moves up to sixth in his Super Aguri Honda.
11:30:05 The chequered flag is now out.
11:30:57 Sutil improves in his Spyker demoting Abers to P22.
11:31:43 So we have Lewis Hamilton fastest from McLaren Mercedes team-mate Fernando Alonso. Kimi Raikkonen is third ahead of Kubica and Massa.
