12.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the 73-lap US Grand Prix.
12.32Practice and qualifying have been dominated by the McLaren Mercedes team, as was the case in Monte Carlo and Montreal. Fernando Alonso led all three practice sessions while Lewis Hamilton was the one to take the Pole Position.
12.34The battle for the win, unusual events aside, should be between Hamilton and Alonso with Ferrari chasing hard. Felipe Massa starts third with team-mate Raikkonen alongside. We do not know how much fuel the drivers have on board the cars, but Hamilton may be carrying a little less than Alonso, something that should come into play 20 or so laps into the Grand Prix.
12.36The Ferrari duo didn’t have the raw speed to challenge in qualifying, but hopefully we will see both Massa and Raikkonen getting involved with the McLaren drivers to make it a four way fight for the victory.
12.38Nick Heidfeld was actually disappointed to qualify his BMW Sauber in fifth position underlining the pace that the team expect from the F1.07 package this weekend. Heidfeld finished second last time out to Hamilton and could well be a dark horse in this event as well.
12.40Heikki Kovalainen starts a fine sixth in his Renault and will be looking to score more points for the Renault team. Giancarlo Fisichella starts tenth in the second R27 and will also be looking to make up ground and hopefully score a few points.
12.42Sebastian Vettel is about to start his first Grand Prix. The young German driver is standing in for Robert Kubica who was not permitted to race following his massive accident last Sunday at the Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel has qualified an impressive seventh and has a car that should be able to challenge those ahead of him.
12.44Jarno Trulli starts eighth in his Toyota after a solid run in qualifying. Team-mate Ralf Schumacher starts 12th in the sister machine. Mark Webber starts ninth in his Red Bull Renault with David Coulthard 11th.
12.46Jenson Button holds the upper hand at Honda this weekend as he starts the race from 13th with Rubens Barrichello in 15th. Over at Williams Toyota and it was a disappointing qualifying session for Nico Rosberg and Alex Wurz as they line up 14th and 17th. Rosberg in particular will aim to use strategy to move up the order.
12.48Anthony Davidson starts 16th in the leading Super Aguri Honda with team-mate Takuma Sato in 18th position. Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed line up 19th and 20th for Toro Rosso while Adrian Sutil and Christijan take the final row of the grid for Spyker.
12.50Bridgestone have brought the hard and medium compound to this race – hard and soft from now on for clarity. The soft tyre was the way to go in qualifying with the white striped tyre worth around half a second a lap. The hard tyre may however prove more durable in race conditions. As ever both compounds have to be used at some point in the race.
12.52It is bright and sunny once again at Indianapolis. There’s a good size crowd on hand and the cars are all lined up on the dummy grid.
12.54All of the Grand Prix this year have effectively been decided in the run down to turn one. At this circuit the tight right hander is followed by another left hander. It is not uncommon for there to be a few incidents and accidents through that sequence of turns.
12.55Last year Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen got together and it was the last time we would see Montoya in a Formula One car before he defected to NASCAR. McLaren will be hoping for no such repeat in 2007.
12.57Passing is very possible at this circuit if a car can follow through the infamous turn 13 and get a tow down the straight. Hopefully we will have some classic slipstreaming.
12.58The drivers are all in the cars and awaiting the signal to fire up the engines.
12.59The engines are now running and the grid is being cleared.
13.00The parade lap is now underway. It is a short lap at this circuit and little chance for the drivers to get heat into the brakes. Soft tyres for the two McLarens and Massa.
13.02Hamilton takes up his Pole Position with Alonso, Massa, Raikkonen - on hard tyres - and others taking up their grid positions.
Lap 1The US Grand Prix is underway.
Lap 1Hamilton leads Alonso while Heidfeld gets ahead of raikkonen
Lap 1Ralf Schumacher is out of the race. Incident at turn one.
Lap 2Coulthard pits as Fisichella runs off track and drops down the field.
Lap 3Barrichello is also in the pits. He, Coulthard and Sachumacher must have made contact at the start. Fisichella's off has put him to teh tail of the field.
Lap 4Coulthard has retired as Hamilton retains a second lead over Alonso, Massa and Heidfeld.
Lap 5It seems that Schumacher locked his front wheels into turn one at the start and hit the side of Coulthard who then got into Barrichello.
Lap 6Having lost out at the start, Raikkonen still runs in sixth position as Wurz and Liuzzi battle hard over 11th position.
Lap 6Sutil is running well in his Spyker and is in 13th position after a good start.
Lap 7Fisichella has got ahead of Albers now at the back of the field. If he is one stopping he will have a tough time making progress.
Lap 8Vettel started seventh and ran a little wide at the start dropping him down to his current tenth position.
Lap 8Hamilton has extended his lead slightly and is now two seconds clear of Alonso.
Lap 9Felipe Massa is running well in third and is not letting the McLaren duo get away.
Lap 10Good defensive driving from Button holds back Fisichella.
Lap 10Fisichella passes Button on the main straight.
Lap 11Raikkonen remains behind Kovalainen. He was the only front runner to start on the harder tyre.
Lap 12Liuzzi has a big train of cars behind him but remains 11th.
Lap 12Sato runs in 14th position but is under investigation for passing under yellow.
Lap 13Fisichella passes Speed into turn one.
Lap 14Raikkonen is pushing hard but cannot find a way ahead of Kovalainen at the moment.
Lap 14Sato passes Sutil at turn one and then spins off at turn two. He is stuck in the gravel trap.
Lap 15Sato is out of the car and that is his race over. He just acrried too much speed into turn two and lost the back end.
Lap 16Liuzzi remains 11th and is some 20s behind Vettel in tenth position with a huge train of cars behind him.
Lap 18Fisichella is now on the tail of Wurz who in turn is in a race long battle with Liuzzi.
Lap 19The gaps at the front remain stable with 3s between each of the top four.
Lap 20The marshall on the pit straight has dropped his blue flag on track.
Lap 21Heidfeld has been off track mid-lap and dropped down from fourth.
Lap 21Actually Heidfeld spun into turn one as leader Hamilton makes his first pit stop. Massa pits too as does Heidfeld.
Lap 22So Heidfeld spun out of fourth and dropped behinf Kovalainen and then pitted. Now Alonso pits his McLaren.
Lap 23The McLaren duo both took soft tyres again as Kovalainen now leads Raikkonen. Neither has pitted yet.
Lap 23Alonso is losing time behind Trulli at the moment.
Lap 24Trulli was right not to give him the position with ease as it was a real battle for position, not a lapping situation.
Lap 25Raikkonen pits his Ferrari. He was making no progress in getting ahead of Kovalainen. Vettel also pits.
Lap 26A nice pass from Fisichella as he bangs wheels to get ahead of Wurz.
Lap 26Trulli and Webber have yet to stop and this is hurting Massa at the moment.
Lap 27Button gets ahead of Speed into turn one.
Lap 27Alonso is closing in on Hamilton a little over the last few laps.
Lap 27Kovalainen pits his Renault.
Lap 28Raikkonen makes a nice pass on Heidfeld - very agressive into turn one as Kovalainen exits behind them. Good news for Raikkonen who spent the first third of the race stuck behind Kovalainen.
Lap 29Trulli, Webber and Rosberg have yet to pit. Take them out of the list and the top six now run where they qualified.
Lap 30Fisichella makes a nice move in the infield and gets ahead of Liuzzi.
Lap 31Webber pits his Red Bull Renault. He is on a one stop as is Trulli and Rosberg.
Lap 32Now Trulli pits his Toyota from third.
Lap 32Massa lost around eight seconds running behind Trulli and Webber before they pitted and now is a distant third as Hamilton and Alonso remain one second apart.
Lap 33Wurz qualified two places ahead of Liuzzi, but has been stuck behind him all race so far.
Lap 34Hamilton and Alonso are closing in on the train of back markers. The first target is Davidson who runs 16th.
Lap 35Alonso knows this is his chance and is closing in on the back of Hamilton as they start to negotiate the traffic.
Lap 36Rosberg still has not pitted his Williams.
Lap 37Hamilton about to lap Speed and his next target is Button.
Lap 37Button lets the McLaren duo through.
Lap 38Good driving from Wurz who backs off slightly on the straight and lets the leaders through.
Lap 38Fisichella and Speed have both pitted. Liuzzi not so keen to let Hamilton through but now he pits.
Lap 39Alonso gets alongside Hamilton on the straight but Hamilton holds on into turn one
Lap 39Alonso got a nice tow on the straight but Hamilton moved to the right and had the best line.
Lap 40Alonso swerved across the track on the pit straight. Very odd, He's telling something to the team it seems.
Lap 40Alonso swerved towards the pit wall for some reason, right off the race line. He is making it clear to the team he has more speed than Hamilton, but it is a public way of doing things.
Lap 41Rosberg pits from fourth in the Williams.
Lap 42Hamilton is lapping over a second and a half slower than he was earlier.
Lap 42Raikkonen seems the fastest of the top four right now.
Lap 43Anthony Davidson pits his Super Aguri.
Lap 43Alonso continues to shadow Hamilton
Lap 44Alex Wurz makes his one and only stop as does Jenson Button.
Lap 46No changes on track but you get the feeling that Alonso is only just controlling his temper at the moment.
Lap 47Button lost ground to Wurz in the pit stop as he had a slow stop in the Honda.
Lap 48Alonso runs a little off track at turn 8 as Kovalainen is the first to make his second stop.
Lap 48Raikkonen is now homing in on Massa as a good rate.
Lap 49Heidfeld pits his BMW Sauber. It has not been the race they had hoped for.
Lap 50Raikkonen is pushing hard and is now less than two seconds behind Massa. Heidfeld exited ahead of Vettel and is now trying to pass Webber.
Lap 51Alonso pits from second position and it was a short stint from him.
Lap 51So that explains why Alonso was able to get all over the back of Hamilton, but he may have been faster but did not make the pass.
Lap 52Hamilton and Raikkonen both pit.
Lap 52Alonso is close behind Hamilton. Lets see if they will race hard or opt for the safer option. Vettel has made his second stop.
Lap 52Massa pits his Ferrari - it will be close between him and Raikkonen for third
Lap 53Raikkonen did not pass Massa as he would have hoped in that stop.
Lap 54Hamilton and Alonso are both very fast with a heavy fuel load. It seems they will be racing hard to the flag.
Lap 55Raikkonen shadows Massa and seems to be the faster of the two.
Lap 56Nick Heidfeld (7th) has a problem - sounds like gears...
Lap 57Heidfeld parks the BMW Sauber with a hydralics problem. Trulli pits his Toyota.
Lap 58Massa is resting his head on the left hand side of the cockpit through the long turn 13. A physical event this.
Lap 59The Hamilton Alonso battle seems stable now.
Lap 60Raikkonen is still looking racey and wants that final podium position. Webber pits his Red Bull for a second time.
Lap 60Trulli and Webber are battling hard for seventh position.
Lap 62Webber runs across he grass as he tries to pass Trulli. He lets Trulli back ahead.
Lap 63The McLaren duo have backed off now at the front. The race has been won by Hamilton barring a mechnical problem. Raikkonen remains close to the back of Massa.
Lap 64Vettel is only a second behind the battling Trulli and Webber ready to pick up a point if one makes a mistake.
Lap 65Massa makes a mistake into turn one and Raikkonen is all over him into the infield.
Lap 66Massa holds on and retains the third position.
Lap 66Davidson makes a pass on Button for 12th into turn one. Button didn't fight too hard this time really.
Lap 67Webber remains behing Trulli and looking for seventh position. It will be his first points of the season.
Lap 68Raikkonen slides his Ferrari into turn three. He frustrated in fourth right now.
Lap 70Rosberg (6th) slows on the main straight. He has an engine problem as the flames lick out of the back of the Williams. A good drive for nothing for Rosberg.
Lap 70Rosberg's misfortune is good news for Vettel who moves up to eighth position.
Lap 71Liuzzi pits and retires his Toro Rosso from 14th position.
Lap 72Raikkonen locks up but continues in fourth.
Lap 73Hamilton wins the US Grand Prix from McLaren Mercedes team-mate Fernando Alonso.
Lap 73Alonso waves to Hamilton and it seemed friendly. He didn't sweep the McLaren wall as traditional though.
Lap 73Massa takes third ahead of Raikkonen, Kovalainen, Trulli, Webber and Vettel.
