| 13.30 | Welcome to F1-Live.com and our coverage of the final race of the season, the 71-lap Brazilian Grand Prix. |
| 13.31 | The pit lane has just opened and the 22 drivers can now leave the pit lane and make the way around to the dummy grid. |
| 13.32 | The final battle of the season is all set with three of the top four starters in contention to win the drivers’ championship this afternoon in Brazil. Heading into the race, Hamilton has 107 points, Fernando Alonso 103 and Kimi Raikkonen 100. There are numerous permutations as to who will be champion, but the easiest to remember is if Hamilton wins or is second, he is champion. |
| 13.34 | Felipe Massa starts on the pole position at this, his home event. The Ferrari driver recorded a best lap of 1:11.931s in qualifying yesterday, over a tenth clear of fellow front row starter Hamilton. The time set by Massa was very rapid indeed, leading many to believe that he is starting the race on a light fuel load. |
| 13.36 | Hamilton did a good job in qualifying to move second on the grid on his final lap of the session. He would like to end the season with a fifth win, but he also knows that he may have to play the numbers game to ensure he is world champion. |
| 13.37 | Kimi Raikkonen starts third after losing a little time on his run yesterday passing Hamilton. Raikkonen needs to win to have any chance of championship success, so expect the Finn to try and make a brave move into turn one and try and move ahead of Hamilton. Should he do so, he then needs to win with Massa second and Hamilton out of the top five. |
| 13.38 | Fernando Alonso starts fourth in the second McLaren Mercedes. He seemed to lack a little pace in practice and qualifying yesterday, but may be taking a more conservative route in terms of fuel levels. His ideal today is to win the race with the Ferrari duo behind him. Should he do so, he will be champion. |
| 13.40 | Away from the top four and the championship battle, Mark Webber lines up in a fine fifth position in his Red Bull Renault. The team will be aiming to score solid points today as they only trail rivals Williams by four in the constructors’ championship. David Coulthard starts ninth in the second RB3. |
| 13.42 | Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica line up in sixth and seventh positions for BMW Sauber. They have little to fight for really as they are a solid second in the championship. The team have very much turned attention to next season so both will be looking to end the season on a high note. |
| 13.44 | Toyota racer Jarno Trulli starts eighth in his TF107. The team have struggled in recent events and the Italian veteran is chasing his first points since the US Grand Prix. Trulli tends to struggle to get off the line at the start and should he drop outside of the top ten on lap one, it is hard to see him making much progress. Ralf Schumacher starts 15th in what is his final race with the team. |
| 13.46 | Nico Rosberg starts tenth in the leading Williams Toyota. It has been a tough weekend for the team as Kazuki Nakajima lines up a lowly 19th for his Grand Prix debut. Rosberg will be chasing points while his new team-mate will be looking for a clean run to the flag. |
| 13.48 | Rubens Barrichello has not scored a point so far this year. The Honda racer starts 11th and really needs a strong result heading into the off-season. Team-mate Jenson Button starts 16th and is particularly unhappy with the grip from his Honda. |
| 13.50 | Over at Renault and Saturday qualification was a disaster. Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen start 12th and 17th and it is hard to see that either will be a realistic points contender. In addition, neither driver has been confirmed for next season with rumours doing the rounds that Nelson Piquet will race next season. |
| 13.52 | The Toro Rosso duo of Sebastian Vettel and Tonio Liuzzi start13th and 14th ahead of Schumacher, Button, Kovalainen and then Takuma Sato. Nakajima is 19th ahead of Anthony Davidson and the Spyker duo of Adrian Sutil and Sakon Yamamoto. |
| 13.55 | There are a number of “lasts” today. It is the last race for what we know as Spyker before it is re-branded. It is the last race for Ralf Schumacher at Toyota. Liuzzi is making his final start at Toro Rosso. It may well be the last race for Yamamoto at Spyker, Alonso’s last at McLaren or Fisichella’s last at Renault as the driver market is far from settled. |
| 13.56 | The weather conditions are perfect for the season finale. The stands are packed with enthusiastic Brazilian fans and the sun is out. |
| 13.57 | Adrian Sutil is starting from the pit lane. |
| 13.58 | Strategy and tyre issues may be a factor in this race with a general view that the super-soft option from Bridgestone may be too soft and that care will be needed to stop the tyre from graining. Most of the front runners will be on a two stop strategy but perhaps, perhaps, Massa and Hamilton are going for a three stop. |
| 13.59 | The one minute siren sounds and the engines are being fired up. |
| 14.00 | The parade lap is now underway. |
| 14.00 | The front runners all seem to be on the harder tyre. |
| 14.02 | Felipe Massa lines up on his pole position with Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso and the rest taking up position. |
