| Thursday practice saw McLaren Mercedes head the timesheets with Fernando Alonso setting the pace on a 1:15.940s. Team-mate Lewis Hamilton was fast too until he went off and damaged his car. He ended the first day in third position. |

| Ferrari had Kimi Raikkonen second fastest while Felipe Massa was a low-key sixth fastest. McLaren had the edge on Thursday, but Ferrari will be hoping to close the gap today. |

| Jarno Trulli was impressive for Toyota as he set the fourth fastest time. Trulli won here for Renault in 2005 and seems to have found a good balance on his Toyota. Team-mate Ralf Schumacher has not and struggled badly on Thursday before crashing out. |
