| Fernando Alonso lost the first half of the session due to an engine misfire, effectively one stint, but recovered to set the fourth fastest time ahead of the impressive Nico Rosberg in the Williams Toyota. |

| Jenson Button was a surprise sixth fastest in his Honda. The team showed relatively well in testing, so the low-downforce nature of this circuit seems to suit the troublesome RA107. Giancarlo Fisichella was seventh fastest ahead of the BMW Sauber duo of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. |
