13.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the 60-lap European Grand Prix. It is windy, overcast but dry.
13.32Kimi Raikkonen stormed to pole position yesterday in his Ferrari, recording a best lap two tenth quicker than his nearest rival Fernando Alonso. Raikkonen is chasing his third straight win this afternoon and his fourth of the season.
13.34Alonso looked all set to claim the pole before a grassy moment mid lap lost him time, so to be just two-tenths slower than Raikkonen indicates he has the race pace to take the battle to Ferrari.
13.36Felipe Massa has not looked particularly comfortable this weekend in his Ferrari and lines up in third position. It will be interesting to see if he can live with the pace of Raikkonen and Alonso.
13.38Lewis Hamilton will be one to watch as he starts back in tenth position following his high speed crash yesterday afternoon. The FIA have given him the all clear to race, so he will be looking to move through the field and ensure his run of podium positions remains unbroken.
13.40Hamilton’s gearbox and engine were undamaged in yesterday’s crash, so it has been a busy night as the team prepare the car for today’s race.
13.42Nick Heidfeld starts in fourth position in his BMW Sauber with team-mate Robert Kubica close behind. The F1.07 does not have the pace to live with the fastest two teams, but Heidfeld and Kubica will be looking for another points haul – and more should one of the front runners slip up.
13.44Mark Webber starts sixth in his Red Bull Renault and will be hoping for a reliable run in the so far unreliable RB3. With team-mate David Coulthard back in 20th position, Webber carries the hopes of points for the team this weekend.
13.46Heikki Kovalainen was a solid seventh in qualifying in his Renault. He will be aiming to keep the BMW Sauber duo within reach while team-mate Fisichella will be looking to move up from his disappointing 13th position on the grid.
13.48Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher start eighth and ninth for Toyota. The duo will be hoping to convert a good qualifying run into points this weekend after a disastrous race day last time out at Silverstone.
13.50Over at Williams Toyota, Nico Rosberg and Alex Wurz line up 11th and 12th. IN qualifying outside of the top ten, they have the option to play with their fuel loads a little more and may well opt for along first stint in order to try and gain track position as the race progresses. Point s will be tough however as the FW29 seems to be slipping behind it rival mid-field runners.
13.52Honda used a one stop strategy to good effect at Silverstone and with Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button starting 14th and 17th, they have little to lose by trying something a bit different.
13.54For Super Aguri Honda, Toro Rosso Ferrari and Spyker Ferrari, the target is a clean race with no reliability issues or driver drama. Marcus Winkelhock is making his Grand Prix debut from the back of the pack.
13.56It is currently dry at the circuit with a stiff breeze. There is a threat of rain this afternoon, but so far it is bone dry.
13.58The drivers are all in the cars as the countdown procedure continues. Dark clouds are moving in...
13.59The one minute siren sounds and the grid is being cleared.
14.00Kimi Raikkonen leads the field from the dummy grid as the formation lap gets underway.
14.00Hard tyres for every runner it seems.
14.03Raikkonen, Alonso and the rest of the field take up position on the grid. There are some spots of rain....
Lap 1The European Grand Prix is underway.
Lap 1Massa into second as the two BMW get together at turn two.
Lap 1Hamilton has a problem. Coulthard off and on. Some spots of rain.
Lap 1Rosberg and Barrichello touch. Barrichello off. It is raining. Rosberg spins.
Lap 1Raikkonen misses the chicane. They are pitting.
Lap 2Raikkonen slips out of the pit lane and has to do another lap. All pit but Raikkonen!
Lap 2A crazy start. They are all taking intermediate tyres.
Lap 2Heidfeld taking a new front wing.
Lap 2Raikkonen is making his way around the lap. So slow in the wet. Fisichella off and back on.
Lap 2Winkelhock is leading in the Spyker!
Lap 3Winkelhock started from the pits.
Lap 3Raikkonen has pitted. A mistake from him on lap one will be costly.
Lap 4Button off. He was fourth.
Lap 3A spyker and Hamilton also off an out.
Lap 4Four cars now off. The rain is coming dowen hard. No chance to turn in the wet. The inters cannot cope.
Lap 4Liuzzi now hits the tractor recovering the cars. Light contact. Some six or seven cars out at turn one. Winkelhock pits for full wets.
Lap 4The safety car is out. Phew....
Lap 4Hamilton is craned away and he had kept the engine running so he can resume.
Lap 4The red flags are out the race is being stopped.
Lap 4Liuzzi, Speed, Rosberg, Sutil and Button seem to be out.
14.15With the race halted until the rain passes over, the teams are now regrouping to see what they can salvage from the race!
14.17So an incredible debut for Winkelhock so far. Starting from the pit lane with wets on before the rain started to fall, he led his first lap of his first Grand Prix on lap two.
14.18The rain shower is passing.
13.19Hamilton is a lap down in 17th. Amazing he is in the race at all after his first few laps.
14.20Pole sitter Raikkonen is currently listed in seventh as the cars are brough back to the start finish straight.
14.21There seems to be come confusion on the grid at the moment with cars out of position.
14.22Winkelhock will lead at the restart. It will be a rolling start after a lap behind the safety car, so not a brand new race as was the case a few years ago.
14.25The sun is out and the circuit is drying. More rain is predicted however.
14.26The restart is scheduled for 14.35.
14.30When the red flags are shown to halt a race, the result are taen back to the start of the last lap. That means, I think, that Hamilton will not be a lap down, but just at the back of the remaining cars.
14.31A recap of the start. Massa made a good jump and moved second ahead of Alonso. Behind Heidfeld ran into team-mate Kubica and spun him around.
14.32Start recap. Behind Rosberg hit the rear of Barrichello's Honda and then spun out. They all pitted for intermediate tyres bar Raikkonen who did one more lap. Then chaos at turn one as they all went off bringing out the red flag.
14.34Spyker are gambling. Winkelhock on extreme wets hoping for more rain.
14.35The parade lap - or the race as it is now back underway behind the safety car.
14.36A lot of smoke from Wurz's Williams.
14.36Track wet, but drying fast. More rain on the way though.
14.38Another lap behind the safety car.
Lap 6Heidfeld pits and takes intermediate tyres from full wets.
Lap 6It seems that Hamilton is being classified a lap down. Not sure about that.
Lap 6Hamilton is now moving though the field as he is a lap down. He passes the safety car and will be trying to get to the back of the pack before the race real restarts.
Lap 7The safety car is still on track. Trulli pits and takes intermediate tyres. Now only Winkelhock on the full wets.
Lap 7Hamilton is pitting.
Lap 7Hamilton has taken dry tyres!
Lap 8The race is now back underway.
Lap 8Massa and Alonso move one two.
Lap 8Coulthard passes Webber and Winkelhock.
Lap 8Hamilton has spun but is back underway.
Lap 8Hamilton's gamble has not worked. Track too wet for dry tyres.
Lap 9Massa leads Alonso and Coulthard.
Lap 9Webber trying to pass Coulthard. Close but no contact.
Lap 9Raikkonen is all over the back of Kovalainen.
Lap 10Fisichella goes around the outside of Barrichello for position. Webber passes Coulthard into turn one.
Lap 10Hamilton is flat last and 10s a lap off the pace on the dry tyres.
Lap 11Winkelhock is slipping towards the back of the field. The gamble on full wets does not work.
Lap 11Hamilton now close to the pace as the circuit gets towards dry tyre conditions.
Lap 11Soon they will all go for dry tyres.
Lap 12Raikkonen and Wurz are pitting for dry tyres.
Lap 12Out front Massa leads Alonso by a second with Webber close behind.
Lap 13Massa and Alonso pit nose to tail. Webber, Kovalainen also pit.
Lap 13Coulthard did not pit.
Lap 13Nearly everyone has pitted. Webber runs wide into turn one and loses a position to Heidfeld.
Lap 14Coulthard pits. Hamilton nearly hit him as he dived for the pits.
Lap 14Heidfeld now pits as well.
Lap 14Coulthard has Kubica and Schumacher right behind. A close battle. Behind Heidfeld is defending from one of the Renault drivers.
Lap 15Winkelhock pulls off with a mechanical problem on the Spyker.
Lap 15Hamilton is still flat last but closing fast on the back of the pack.
Lap 16Massa leads Alonso, Raikkonen and Webber. Alex Wurz is fifth ahead of Kovalainen and Coulthard.
Lap 17Kovalainen is pushing hard and trying to find a way ahead of Wurz.
Lap 19Kovalainen passes Wurz into turn one
Lap 20Ralf Schumacher off and into the gravel at the final turn. He was hit by Heidfeld.
Lap 21A busy race from Heidfeld as that is the second driver he has hit so far today.
Lap 21Takuma Sato (13th) has stopped with a problem.
Lap 21Kovalainen is now right on the back of Webber and lookinf for a way through.
Lap 22Heidfeld waves at Schumacher at the final turn. Saying sorry it seems.
Lap 23Out front and Raikkonen is closing in on Alonso.
Lap 24The main battles at the moment are Alonso and Raikkonen for second and Kovalainen and Webber for fourth.
Lap 25Hamilton remains the fastest man on track but still a long way behind Trulli who is 13th.
Lap 26Massa now has the lead up to nearly five seconds.
Lap 27Kovalainen is still right behind Webber but cannot find a way ahead.
Lap 28Barrichello's rain light seems to be falling off. He is 11th.
Lap 28Kovalainen pits his Renault from fifth position.
Lap 28Kovalainen exits the pits behind team-mate Fisichella.
Lap 29Coulthard has Kubica, Heidfeld and Fisichella right behind him, but he is keeping the position.
Lap 29Massa is pulling out a little on each lap. He is pushing so he must be getting ready to stop.
Lap 31Fisichella pits from ninth position.
Lap 33Alonso has increased his pace and stabalised the gap to Massa.
Lap 33Hamilton is right on Fisichella. A good battle into turn one. No change in the order.
Lap 34Hamilton makes an agressive pass to move ahead of Fisichella.
Lap 35Hamilton very brave to make a pass around the outside in turn 11.
Lap 35Raikkonen slows...
Lap 35Raikkonen has a problem and is coasting.
Lap 35The car keeps cutting out and then restarting.
Lap 35Trulli and Hamilton pit.
Lap 36Raikkonen stops on entry into the pit lane.
Lap 38Alonso pits from second position.
Lap 38Hamilton passes Trulli into turn one. Wurz pits from fourth.
Lap 38Heidfeld pits from seventh position.
Lap 39Hamilton pits from the lead. He had a ten second advantage in reality over Alonso.
Lap 40Kubica pits from fifth position.
Lap 40Kubica exits just ahead of Heidfeld.
Lap 41Hamilton all over Barrichello and will soon pass.
Lap 42Webber pits from third as Hamilton passes Barrichello into the first turn.
Lap 43Alonso is closing in a little on Massa. The gap has come down five second since the pit stops.
Lap 44Interesting to note that Massa is not far behind Hamilton and about to lap him, while the second McLaren of Alonso is closing in.
Lap 44Coulthard pits from third position.
Lap 46Hamilton backs off and allows race leader Massa though.
Lap 47There is some kind of black plastic cone on the track on the main straight.
Lap 47Massa almost hits that cone and has to take avoiding action.
Lap 48The cone is actually the right rear wheel cover from Fisichella's Renault.
Lap 49On track, Massa leads Hamilton who is a lap down. Alonso is in second position but runs behind Hamilton a few seconds back.
Lap 50Dark clouds overhead again.
Lap 50Kovalainen pits from fifth position. Odd. He is on inters!
Lap 50Kovalainen is really gambling. No rain yet and he is going for the win from P5.
Lap 51A strange move from Renault. There is no rain as Fisichella passes with ease.
Lap 52It is now raining on some parts of the track.
Lap 53Davidson pits his Super Aguri Honda.
Lap 53They are all coming in at the end of this lap for intermediate tyres.
Lap 53Coulthard pits from fifth.
Lap 54Leaders all pit. Hamilton stays out.
Lap 54Massa leads as they exit the pits but the gap is just a few seconds.
Lap 54Alonso almost hit Fisichella exiting the pits.
Lap 54Alonso has the gap down to about two seconds. It is light rain at the moment.
Lap 55Alonso now all over Massa!
Lap 55Alonso is going for it
Lap 55Alonso seems much faster in the damp.
Lap 56Alonso and Massa side by side into turn one, Massa retains the lead. Hamilton pits.
Lap 56Alonso takes the lead around the outside as they make slight contact!
Lap 56A wonderful battle and some great driving from Alonso.
Lap 57Alonso is now pulling out a lead.
Lap 57Webber still runs third with Wurz only a few seconds back in fourth.
Lap 59Hamilton now behind Fisichella and Kovalainen with a lap remaining.
Lap 60Hamilton passes Fisichella and sets after Kovalainen.
Lap 60Alonso wins the European Grand Prix!
Lap 60Massa takes second position as Webber battles with Wurz.
Lap 60Webber holds Wurz off to take third position from Wurz ahead of Coulthard, Heidfeld, Kubica and Kovalainen.
