| 19.30 | Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the 61-lap Singapore Grand Prix that gets underway in just over 30 minutes. Built in just 18 months, this new event on the calendar makes history by being the first ever Formula One night race. |
| 19.32 | Felipe Massa blitzed the field in qualifying to take the pole position by over six-tenths of a second from Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver, one point behind Hamilton in the championship, claimed the pole position with a best lap of 1:44.801s. |
| 19.34 | Much has been made of the gap between Massa and Hamilton on a 1:45.465, with some suggesting that the Brazilian has gone very light on fuel to secure the pole. It is possible that he did run slightly less fuel in qualifying – and therefore into the race – but it was clear that Hamilton was having trouble under braking with the front right wheel locking and neither of his laps was a particularly clean affair. |
| 19.36 | With just one point between Hamilton and Massa and the positions being reversed on the grid, this race has the potential to be critical in the championship chase. However, if Valencia is anything to go by, then Hamilton may be content to follow Massa to the flag and relinquish just two points and fight for another day. Hopefully we will see a bit more fight for the race win... |
| 19.37 | Fernando Alonso is taking a second lap to the dummy grid in his Renault. |
| 19.38 | Kimi Raikkonen starts third is the second Ferrari and his task will to be to try and disrupt Hamilton and help team-mate Massa. Hamilton has no such luxury as Heikki Kovalainen starts fifth and unless he can get the jump on Rosberg Kubica at the start, may well not be a factor amongst the front-runners. |
| 19.40 | With Kubica fourth on the grid and still very much in the championship, the Pole will be looking for a fast getaway and a podium position to challenge alive into the remaining three rounds. BMW Sauber team-mate Nick Heidfeld qualified sixth, but starts ninth after being harshly handed a penalty for inadvertently blocking Rubens Barrichello in the first round of qualifying. |
| 19.42 | The pit lane entry starts well before the final turn and it certainly was not Heidfeld’s fault that he blocked the Honda racer as the racing lines incorporates the pit entry. While it is a stunning new circuit, this entry is a dangerous and could cause issues tonight. |
| 19.44 | Italian Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel starts from sixth position after another great performance in the Toro Rosso Ferrari. Vettel proved at Monza that he can race at the front and it will be interesting to see if he can use some strategy to move up the field. Vettel starts ahead of the leading Toyota of Timo Glock who will be looking for solid points for the German-based team. |
| 19.46 | Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima line up in eighth and tenth positions for Williams Toyota. The FW30 package seems well suited to the high downforce demands of this circuit but recent races have shown that the team lose out to those outside of the top ten who opt to run with more fuel. Points are the target. |
| 19.48 | Jarno Trulli qualified 11th in the second Toyota and in not making it into the final round of qualifying is the first driver to have a free reign on fuel choices overnight. Expect the Italian veteran to run a long first stint to try and pick up positions in the pit stops. |
| 19.50 | Jenson Button carries the hopes of Honda from 12th position on the grid and has run pretty well this weekend in the unloved RA108. He starts ahead of the struggling Red Bull Renault duo of Mark Webber and David Coulthard who have both had their woes this weekend with incident and mechanical problems. |
| 19.52 | Fernando Alonso showed great practice pace but it all went wrong in qualifying when the R28 ground to a halt with fuel pressure problems. Alonso could opt to run light and carve his way through the pack, or more likely, fill the car up and hope for the best. It is a similar situation for Piquet, but he does not have the pace of his team-mate. |
| 19.54 | Towards the back we have Sebastien Bourdais in the second Toro Rosso who has it all to do, Rubens Barrichello who was out of luck with traffic in qualifying in the second Honda and the struggling Force India duo of Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella. |
| 19.56 | It’s humid and dry as the countdown continues to the first ever Formula One night race in Singapore. Night racing is nothing new to the world of sports cars, touring cars, rallying or American open wheel racing, but it is brand new to Formula One which has adapted the format to satisfy the European TV audiences. |
| 19.58 | Fisichella is starting the race from the pit lane. |
| 19.59 | The grid is now being cleared. |
| 20.00 | The formation lap is now underway. |
| 20.00 | Most seem to be on the hard tyre. Alonso is on the soft. |
| 20.01 | Watch for Alonso on the soft tyre - he could be going bold. He starts 15th. |
| 20.02 | Felipe Massa lines up on the pole position ahead of Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kubica, Kovalainen, Vettel, Glock, Rosberg, Heidfeld and Nakajima. |
| Lap 1 | The 61-lap Singapore Grand Prix is underway! |
| Lap 1 | Some bumping in turn two. Massa leads as Kovalainen loses a position to Glock. |
| Lap 1 | Kovalainen and Glock change back and then again. Good battle. |
| Lap 1 | Massa leads Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kubica, Vettel, Glock, Kovalainen, Heidfeld. |
| Lap 1 | Alonso is up to 12th from P15 on the grid. |
| Lap 2 | Massa leads by just over a second. Alonso is lining up Nakajima for 11th. |
| Lap 3 | Trulli (9th) is holding up Rosberg and Nakajima as well as Alonso. |
| Lap 3 | The gap at the front remains at just over a second. |
| Lap 3 | It turns out Kovalainen got a bump at turn three on the first lap from Kubica and that dropped him down behind Vettel and then Glock. |
| Lap 4 | Raikkonen, third, is dropping away fast in third. |
| Lap 4 | Rosberg runs wide at turn two trying to pass Trulli who is probably heavy on fuel. |
| Lap 4 | A lock up for Nakajima who has Alonso all over him for 11th. |
| Lap 5 | Rosberg is also on the soft tyre. |
| Lap 5 | Massa leads now by two seconds as Rosberg has another stab at passing Trulli. |
| Lap 5 | Raikkonen is not keeping pace with the front two. Kubica remains P4. |
| Lap 6 | Trulli is way off the pace and holiding up those behind. His last lap was nearly five seconds off race leader Massa. |
| Lap 6 | Some debris on the main straight - looks like a brake duct. |
| Lap 6 | Trulli has dropped 11 seconds behind Heidfeld. Webber hits that brake duct. |
| Lap 7 | Rosberg still all over Trulli. He really needs to get ahead or his strategy is ruined. |
| Lap 7 | Rosberg gets the moves made and is ahead of Trulli. |
| Lap 7 | A good pass from Rosberg into turn seven who locks his brakes to make the pass. Rosberg now runs ninth. |
| Lap 9 | Rosberg is now dropping Trulli by four seconds a lap as Massa has now picked up that brake duct debris. |
| Lap 9 | Alonso passes Trulli into turn seven as Raikkonen has now picked up the pace. |
| Lap 10 | Raikkonen gets the gap down to Hamilton to almost four seconds. |
| Lap 10 | Trulli now has Webber right behind him. |
| Lap 11 | The gaps between the top three are closing ahead of the first stops. |
| Lap 12 | Raikkonen is pushing very hard in third to keep the pressure on Hamilton. |
| Lap 13 | A fast lap from Massa and Hamilton is now four seconds adrift. Raikkonen is now just over two seconds behind Hamilton so the pressure is on McLaren. |
| Lap 13 | Alonso pits his Renault from 11th. Trulli has cost him. |
| Lap 14 | Massa extends his lead again on that lap and Hamilton has no answer. |
| Lap 14 | Bourdais runs down the escape road and loses 16th to Barrichello. |
| Lap 15 | Raikkonen now has Hamilton in view. |
| Lap 15 | Piquet has a big shunt. |
| Lap 15 | The safety car is out. Coulthard and Barrichello had just pitted as Piquet spun and made heavy contact with the wall. |
| Lap 16 | Rosberg has pitted his Williams behind the safety car. He needs the fuel and will have a penalty. |
| Lap 16 | The question is if anyone else has to pit. |
| Lap 16 | Barrichello has pulled to a halt. |
| Lap 16 | Barrichello had already pitted so it is not a fuel issue. |
| Lap 17 | Kubica pits his BMW Sauber. |
| Lap 17 | So Kubica will get a penalty as well as the pit lane is not open yet. A shame that the FIA have not corrected the rules. |
| Lap 17 | So penalties will apply to both Rosberg and Kubica so far. The Renault is now being cleared as is Barrichello's Honda. |
| Lap 17 | The pit lane is now open. |
| Lap 18 | They are all pitting now. |
| Lap 18 | Massa exits the pits with the fuel hose attached! |
| Lap 18 | Another blunder from the Ferrari team in the pits. Massa has stopped at the end of the pit lane. |
| Lap 18 | Massa is waiting for the crew to arrive to remove the hose. |
| Lap 18 | They are sruggling to remove the hose. |
| Lap 18 | Massa is now finally underway at the back of the field. Massa knocked a mechanic over and also exited infront of Sutil despite the green light. That is the fault of Ferrari. |
| Lap 19 | A penalty is needed for Massa. Not his fault but it was an unsafe release for sure. |
| Lap 19 | So all change. Bourdais now pits. |
| Lap 19 | The safety car remains on track. Rosberg now leads Trulli, Fisichella, Kubica, Alonso, Webber, Coulthard and Hamilton. Two penalties outstanding for Rosberg and Kubica. |
| Lap 20 | The race is back underway. |
| Lap 20 | A very new look to the race now as Massa runs 18th and last. |
| Lap 20 | Rosberg is dropping Trulli at speed. He needs to as he has a penalty to take. Fisichella is third and has yet to pit. Kubica is P4 and has a penalty to take while Alonso is the real leader... |
| Lap 21 | Massa runs wide and loses time at the final turn. |
| Lap 22 | Hamilton runs in P8 and has the Red Bull duo ahead. |
| Lap 22 | Massa is under investigation. He should have a penalty although it was clearly not his error but that of his team. |
| Lap 23 | Rosberg now leads by seven seconds from Trulli with Fisichella three seconds behind. Only Trulli and Fisichella have to pit. |
| Lap 24 | Rosberg and Kubica under investigation. They pitted with the pit lane closed. Again, not their fault, but poor rules from the FIA. |
| Lap 24 | Massa is to get a drive through penalty. |
| Lap 25 | Massa pits for his penalty. |
| Lap 25 | Rosberg and Kubica get a ten second stop and go, so much harsher than that of Massa. |
| Lap 25 | Rosberg leads by 11 seconds and has to take a penalty. Kubica runs fourth. |
| Lap 26 | Hamilton contines in P8 and making no progress at the moment. |
| Lap 27 | Raikkonen lost out in the stops as he had to wait for Massa to be fuelled. |
| Lap 27 | Hamilton looking to pass Coulthard for seventh. |
| Lap 28 | Kubica pits from fourth to take his stop and go penalty. |
| Lap 28 | Webber runs off track at the first turn from sixth and loses a lot of positions. |
| Lap 29 | Rosberg pits from the lead. He has a stop go penalty. |
| Lap 29 | Webber has a problem as he is slowing. |
| Lap 30 | Fisichella pits from third. That is his first stop. |
| Lap 30 | Rosberg is still in the game as he runs third. Webber pulls in to retire. |
| Lap 31 | Kubica runs back in 16th after his stop and go penalty. Rosberg in third. |
| Lap 32 | Kubica passes Massa for 15th. Most strange. |
| Lap 32 | Massa pits for fuel and takes the soft tyre. That is his final stop with a long long way to go. |
| Lap 33 | Trulli leads but has yet to stop. Alonso is second ahead of Rosberg but they both have to stop too, albeit on a two stop strategy. |

| Lap 42 | Alonso now has Hamilton right on him but Hamilton needs to pit again. |
| Lap 43 | Hamilton and Coulthard both pit. |

| Lap 46 | Massa runs off track at turn one. |

| Lap 56 | Hamilton continues to chase Rosberg looking for a mistake should there be one from the Williams driver. |
| Lap 57 | Glock remains in fourth position which will be a great result for the Toyota driver. |
| Lap 57 | It seems we are going the 61-lap distance. The race started at 20.03 local time. |
| Lap 58 | Raikkonen has hit the wall! |
| Lap 58 | Raikkonen is out of fifth position on an awful race for Ferrari. He took too much kerbing at turn ten. |
